Fourteen Yonkers Schools Recognized for Academic Achievement
(May 15, 2008) Fourteen Yonkers schools were recognized by the New York State Education Department for continuous improvements on NYS assessments. Eight District schools were named High Performing/Gap Closing Schools for meeting all New York State standards for English Language Arts (ELA) and math during the 2006-07 school year and also made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in ELA and math for two consecutive years under Federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) regulations. An additional six schools were recognized as Rapidly Improving.
Eight of Eighteen High Performing Schools Among the Big Four City School Distict are in Yonkers
Montessori School 31, Patricia A. DiChiaro, Rosemarie Ann Siragusa School, School 22, School 30, Saunders Trades & Technical High School, PEARLS Hawthorne School and Yonkers High School have all been identified as High Performing/Gap Closing Schools and represent 8 of the 18 schools among the Big Four City School Districts identified in this category. At a NY State Education Department press conference, the PEARLS Hawthorne school was singled out for recognition for its notable student achievement in English Language Arts and math across all demographic groups.
Six Additional Schools Rapidly Improving
Family School 32, Paideia School 15, School 16, Scholastic Academy for Academic Excellence, Gorton High School, Lincoln High School have been identified as Rapidly Improving for making Adequate Yearly progress for three consecutive years. These schools represent 6 of the 28 schools among the Big Four City School Districts identified as Rapidly Improving.
